Our Story

Ready in the minutes that matter most.

Surviving the Emergency is a workplace safety training and consulting company serving the greater Cincinnati area and surrounding counties — led by active fire and EMS professionals who have spent their careers on people’s worst days.

How we started

Surviving the Emergency began on September 1, 2026, when a local pediatric dental office asked Justin Null — a 23-year veteran of the fire service — to build an emergency-preparedness program and help their team respond with confidence when it mattered most.

Working alongside that practice to design and finalize their program made one thing clear: the same need existed everywhere. Employers in every industry want their people better prepared for the emergencies that can walk through the door on any given day.

That need — paired with a career spent on emergency scenes and a genuine desire to serve others and make the best outcomes possible — grew Surviving the Emergency into what it is today. And it’s still growing, as we keep learning how to serve more people and more of the businesses that need us.

What drives us

Our goal is simple: no one should feel helpless in an emergency. A cardiac arrest at a desk, a fire in a break room, a serious injury on a job site — the people already there are the ones who make the difference in those first critical minutes.

We prepare your team to bridge that gap: to act with confidence and keep someone alive and stable until fire and EMS arrive and take over. A clean handoff, and the best possible outcome.

How we work

  • Taught by active fire and EMS professionals — not a slideshow, and not someone reading from a manual.
  • Built for real workplaces, from a single office to a multi-site operation.
  • Practical and hands-on, so your team can actually perform when it counts.
  • Documented and audit-ready, so your training also satisfies OSHA and client compliance requirements.

Justin Null

Founder · Owner · Instructor

Justin has spent his career in the fire service, rising to the rank of Assistant Chief and serving as a fire and EMS instructor. He has responded to countless medical, fire, and rescue emergencies and served on a FEMA Urban Search & Rescue team deployed to federally declared disasters. He founded Surviving the Emergency to bring that same level of preparedness — and calm under pressure — to the workplaces in his own community.
